Mission
AnAfricanArtAffair’s mission is to promote emerging African artists living and working on the continent by giving the best possible tools for developing their artistic practices. The organisation fosters a wide range of artistic and curatorial initiatives working with artists through five collaborative and process-driven streams from production, exhibition-making, public programmes, research and publishing.
We offer a unique and exclusive way for audiences to gain insight into the vibrant and burgeoning contemporary art scene in the region, as well as, recognise the central role art can play in the life of a community by promoting public learning and a participatory approach to art. AnAfricanArtAffair is dedicated to creating and maintaining the highest standards of scholarship and ethical practice in the business of exhibiting, buying, and selling contemporary art. We support an active and ambitious visual arts program by donating with each sale, a set portion of the price of every work to local art schools and establishments.
International interest in contemporary art from Africa has never been stronger. Prices for established artists from countries such as South Africa and Nigeria are escalating at auction and young and emerging artists are regularly exhibiting internationally. Nevertheless, there are many talented artists that are still unknown to the international art market. Our aim is to give artists a voice and a presence. We believe that art is not only local, it is global. We have a commitment to cultural collaboration and exchange working with the local community in building and understanding contemporary art on the continent today.
